A Legacy reorganised with care for the Kelkar Family
Client Profile
The Kelkar family came to us as a group of well settled and highly respected individuals.
Dr Arvind Kelkar, a senior medical professional based in Assam, had already handled a few of his own share related matters in the past, especially those that were in his name alone. His brothers, Sunil and Mukund, were equally established and lived in Pune and West Bengal with their families.
Their parents, Mrs Nalini Kelkar and Mr Vishnu Kelkar, had invested with foresight across different companies over several decades. After their passing, the family wished to bring complete order and structure to the inherited holdings so that every document and every share reflected the legacy their parents intended to create.
The Challenge
The Kelkar family soon realised that the inheritance left behind by their parents was far more complex than it first appeared. The shareholdings were scattered across several companies and held in different combinations of names. Many decades of corporate actions had taken place, leaving old records inconsistent and difficult to trace. Some shares were still with the companies while others had already moved into the Investor Education and Protection Fund. Several original certificates were missing. Names and spellings differed across documents. Signatures had changed over the years. Their father had a probate, whereas their mother had passed without a will, which meant two different succession processes had to run together.
Although the family understood the process well and had even taken initial steps on their own, they soon realised that these holdings were deeply intertwined through various joint name combinations and required a complete reconstruction from the ground up. With the brothers living in different states, coordinating the documentation added yet another layer of difficulty. They wanted someone who could approach the matter with the same dignity, calm and attention to detail that their parents had lived by.
Our Approach
We approached this matter as a part of the family’s history that needed to be restored with care. We rebuilt a complete picture of every holding by mapping each certificate, corporate action and transfer. All records were aligned with the probate of Mr Vishnu Kelkar and we prepared the full process for the intestate succession of Mrs Nalini Kelkar. We corrected names, updated all KYC information and applied for duplicate certificates wherever originals were missing. We reconstructed the dividend and corporate action history for every company and filed the required claims with the Investor Education and Protection Fund.
Since the brothers lived in three different states, we coordinated all documentation and signatures in a way that did not disrupt their personal or professional routines.
Throughout the journey, we ensured that communication was clear, timely and respectful of the family’s preference for structured and efficient processes.
After a detailed and patient effort, every share belonging to the Kelkar parents was successfully traced, regularised and credited to the rightful heirs.
The family finally received a complete, well organised and transparent view of their inheritance.
The outcome created a deep sense of satisfaction.
Not because of financial gain, but because the entire legacy of their parents was now intact, documented and secure in their own names.
For us, the most fulfilling moment was hearing the family say that the entire process had become smooth, predictable and free from stress. They appreciated the clarity and consistency with which everything was handled.
Why This Case Mattered to Us
Working with the Kelkar family reinforced our belief in thoughtful and human problem solving. Their dignity, warmth and trust inspired us to ensure every step was handled with complete sincerity and precision. It was an honour to bring order and clarity to something that carried so much emotional and family value.
